Poker Stars is currently the largest poker room in operation by a significant margin. They offer an unprecedented schedule of tournaments including a weekly 1.5 million guaranteed tournament - the largest available online. Their massive traffic allows for a steady flow of sit n go tournaments, while running endless cash games at all levels in nearly every game variety. Poker Stars didn't become the big dog of the industry by luck. They have fantastic software, excellent marketing/promotions, and they sponsored WSOP Champions Chris Moneymaker, Greg Raymer, and Joe Hachem on their paths to the coveted WSOP Main Event Title. You might run into any one of them, or a number of other reputable pros including Daniel Negreanu, at the tables! Poker Stars is the online leader in traffic as of February 2009 posting an impressive 26,000 cash players and 155,000 tournament players average during peak hours. This is nearly triple the numbers posted by Full Tilt poker who holds the 2nd position in traffic. Poker Stars is also posting the greatest gains in usership, ensuring their continued reign at the top of the online poker traffic rankings.

What does this all mean? Well if you're looking for massive tournaments, an endless list of active cash games, and a poker room that will be busier than most other poker rooms combined at any time of day then you need look no further! Poker Stars has the massive traffic you're looking for.

Software   9/10

Sharp, elegant, quick, and effective - the software at Poker Stars is some of the best in the industry. Option to use a photo as your avatar is a nice touch, and can create a much more personal poker experience. It also supports excellent multi-table options and a high level of customization including several snazzy theme packages.

Player note taking and statistics functions are excellent tools for any serious online player looking to gain an edge at Poker Stars. They also support player-player cash transfers.

Poker Stars recently added a Mac version of their software to satisfy the expanding hard core Mac user community.

Game Selection   10/10

With their recent addition of 5 Card Draw, 2-7 Triple Draw, 2-7 Single Draw, HORSE, HOSE, Hold'em Mixed, Omaha H/L Mixed, and 8-Game Mix, Poker Stars now holds the largest game selection available at a major online poker room. Of course they also offer Hold'Em, and all the common variants of Omaha, and Stud including Razz. Rumour has it Badugi is the next game set to join the ranks, though it is not yet available. If you're looking for a wide variety of game selection where even the most obscure of games will have dozens of active tables at a range of limits, Poker Stars is by far your best bet.

Poker Stars was also one of the first rooms to offer games in with extremely small limite (ie. $0.01/$0.02). Poker newbies flock to these games where you can literally play all day on a $1 buy in. They're a great way for newcomers to gain some experience with the game. They're much better than the free rooms where the games played don't even really qualify as poker.

Competition   8/10

Poker Stars is home to some of the more challenging competition. Of course with such a high traffic volume, there's bound to be plenty of fish, but the average level of play is fairly decent. The major plus to the high volume of traffic on Poker Stars is that you can choose from literally thousands of tables in an effort to find one that will match your style of play. Browse for long enough and you're sure to find the perfect one.

Poker Stars customer service team does a top notch job. Their 24 hour email support delivers detailed and helpful responses quickly. They do not offer live support either online or by phone. The speed of their email support is still impressive enough to earn them a solid 9/10.


Tournaments   10/10

There are literally endless tournaments. With the highest traffic of any online poker room, Poker Stars has no trouble filling tournaments with thousands of entrants and million dollar plus prize pools. They also "supply" nearly one third of all entrants to the WSOP. That's right, one third. If you've ever wanted to play at the WSOP, but don't have the $10,000 to fork over up front, Poker Stars is probably your best bet. Any way you look at it, Poker Stars is truly the home of online poker tournaments.

Conclusions

With the most traffic, the most tournaments, and the best game selection, you really can't go wrong. It doesn't hurt that they also have fantastic software and customer support to boot.
